Course Overview

Who Should take this course?

Workers who have taken the initial HAZWOPER Supervisor Training and need to refresh their HAZWOPER certificate can take the OSHA 8 Hour HAZWOPER Supervisor Refresher. This course refreshes both HAZWOPER Supervisor and 24- and 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.

While this training is different from OSHA 8 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher training, students are not required to take both.

There are currently several versions of this course to choose from, each with a different focus. To see what each version covers, see course Topics.

You can add a PVC ID card (with or without photo) for an additional $5 by selecting this option at the time of enrollment. Adding a photo after enrollment will cost an additional $10.

Again, this Supervisor Refresher course is intended for those students who have already taken the OSHA 8 Hour HAZWOPER Supervisor (Initial) course.

Students with HAZWOPER Supervisor (Initial) training that take this HAZWOPER Supervisor Refresher course do NOT need to take the regular HAZWOPER Refresher course as well. This course will serve as your HAZWOPER Refresher training for the year.

A - The multiple course versions are designed with the intention of offering you more options for your training. The more applicable your training can be toward your job, the better.

Q - Are all versions accepted by OSHA?

A - Yes, all versions meet OSHA requirements. OSHA allows flexibility in training and prefers training to be individual specific.

Q - Which version should I take?

A - Pick the material that seems most relevant to you and your job, or that you are most interested in.

Q - Will I receive the same certificate?

A - Yes, the certificate you receive is the same and does not vary depending on which version you choose.

Exams

Each exam consists of 10 questions randomly selected from a large pool of questions. A 70% score or better is required to pass each exam.

This course has one exam for each corresponding module. Students are required to complete an exam after completing all course sections. There is no final exam.

If a student does not pass an exam the first time, they may retake the exam as many times as necessary in order to pass.

Additional Training

This course is designed to help workers meet the OSHA 8 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher requirements. If this course takes less than 8 hours to complete, it should be combined with other training conducted throughout the year to meet the 8-hour requirement. This additional training can come from hands-on, job- or company-specific training, or even tailgate safety meetings.

Workers must receive additional training, when required by Federal and State OSHA and EPA standards, on the specific hazards of their job.

Training providers should be used to ensure credibility and augment a company's training program. Therefore, in addition to the training provided by an outside party, a student should receive site-specific training that is supplied by their own company. This training should target the company's unique approach to hazard prevention, including the use of site-specific equipment, health and safety policies, and emergency procedures. As a rule, this company specific training should be well documented.

The bottom line in ALL SITUATIONS is that employers are required to ensure that their employees are adequately trained to do their job.

Mobile Version

We're excited to announce that this course is available in HTML 5, making it more compatible with the browser on your mobile device (e.g., smartphone or tablet).

This course requires only the most recent version of your mobile device's web browser.

Mobile Pros and Cons

Mobile versions of this sort of training are new, but below are some Pros and Cons that we have noticed during our extensive testing.

Pros

  • No computer needed
  • Tablet mobility
  • Tablet screen graphics

Cons

  • Smartphone screens can be too small to see
  • Mobile browsers react differently than computer browsers
  • Phone calls can interrupt training

During our testing we noticed that tablets work much better than smartphones, simply due to their screen size. The newer the device, the better the result. We are also aware that the course will not work on the first generation iPad, nor older Android Tablets.

Test the functionality of your browser using HTML5 and compare it to the performance of other browsers. If you find other browsers are more compatible than your own, you may want to make the switch.

FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions specific to this course.

Q - What if it has been longer than 12 months since I received my refresher training?

This does not mean you must take the initial training all over again. Per OSHA, "If the date for refresher training has lapsed, the need to repeat the initial training must be determined based on the employee's familiarity with safety and health procedures used on site. The employee should take the next available refresher training course. There should be a record in the employee's file indicating why the training has been delayed and when the training will be completed."

Q - Can I use my one-time 8 Hour Initial HAZWOPER Supervisor training course as my refresher training for that year?

No, OSHA would expect a general hazardous waste site worker who is becoming a supervisor or manager to receive at least 16 hours of training during the year they become a supervisor: 8 hours of management and supervisory training in addition to 8 hours of employee refresher training. HAZWOPER requires that supervisors and managers be trained and given supervised field experience to at least the level of the employees who they will oversee, and have at least eight additional hours of specialized training on the topics listed in 1910.120(e)(4).

Q - How long will this course take to complete?

Our courses are set up to take a specific amount of time. Some students may get through the training more quickly, while others may actually take longer to complete their training. Remember, this training should be used as an intricate tool in the context of an overall training program; it can be combined with other training throughout the year in order to meet any hour requirements needed.
